Abort-Only When Absolutely Necessary
The overuse of abortions is way too common. Seriously, people use the option of having an abortion as a form of birth control. In fact, abortion is a form of birth control, but it should only be an option when all else fails. Therefore, precautionary measures should be taken to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Personally, I believe abortions should be illegal unless the mother’s life is in danger, the woman was raped, or the mother was severely addicted to drugs at the time of conception.
First of all, if a woman finds out that she could die due to her being pregnant; abortion should be an option for her. Not only would the newborn child be without a mother, but if she has other children, so will they. Therefore, I believe it should be accepted to terminate a life that hasn’t really started to save a life in full swing. However, I believe each woman should have to weigh her options and make the decision for herself. A child is dependant on their mother, therefore the possibility of a mother dying while giving birth makes me believe that she shouldn’t have to follow through with the pregnancy if she doesn’t want to.
Secondly, if a woman’s pregnancy is the result of her being raped, she should be allowed to have an abortion. With this in mind, certain situations call for certain adjustments; this is definitely one of them. A woman has no control over the decision to become or prevent pregnancy if she is raped. Therefore, she shouldn’t have to give birth to a child that would be a constant reminder of her being raped. In fact, she may even resent the baby for it’s fathers’ actions, which wouldn’t be good for anyone.
