Canadian Party : Vote Ndp
Are we being cheated by our current government? Is the sky blue? It’s time to give the NDP a chance to run this country. Vote NDP to preserve and improve our healthcare, environment, and education. Right now, our healthcare is in desperate need of funding and overall improvement especially for youth and for seniors. Our beautiful environment faces potential catastrophe because of the awful Keystone pipeline. Lastly, early childhood education and childcare services lack necessary resources. The NDP is the only party that offers fair and realistic plans to improve these three issues stated above.
In terms of healthcare, the Conservative and Liberal parties want to “privatize” our health system. The NDP believes in universal access to high-quality public health care for seniors, and for youth and adults who need mental health treatment. Walking into a hospital currently is quite a disturbing scene. There are seniors lying in gatch beds in the halls of hospitals, simply because there’s not enough room, who are in need of more medical attention. The NDP state that they “pledge $70million over three years to allow more seniors and citizens with chronic disabilities to get better home support and community care.” (Dyck) In regards to mental health among youth, “the mental health charity, estimates that one in 10 patients waits longer than a year to receive psychological treatment, while those with other illnesses, like cancer, are usually treated within a number of days.” (Hardman) In other words, mentally ill patients deteriorate further, which in turn makes them result to more expensive crisis care. Currently there are not many programs available for youth and adults suffering from mental illnesses so as a result, most of them end up on the streets or under private care for those who can afford it. From personal experience, my brother was suicidal and was admitted into the Psychiatric Unit at the Vancouver General Hospital. My seventeen year old brother had to share a room, where he would also spend his nights, for almost a week with another man in his late thirties who was also very mentally ill and had a severe case of schizophrenia. Currently, my brother has been waiting over 8 months to consult a physiatrist for his severe depression and anxiety, because he is too old to be received at Children’s Hospital but too young to be admitted as an adult at another hospital facility. This means he has to wait until February of next year when he turns eighteen…even if he currently deals with suicidal tendencies. If that doesn’t raise some concern in regards to how the current Liberal and Conservative government handles mental illness, I don’t know what will. The NDP however, promises $35 million to improve mental health treatment for the youth. Do you want top quality health care fast? Vote NDP.
Next, BC citizens are concerned about the impact of the pipelines that the Liberal government is trying to run to the Coast of British Columbia. The NDP are against the idea of having a pipeline and are in favor of protecting the environment, its biodiversity, and the restoration of threatened species. The pipeline presents a major risk for oil spills, pollution, and threatening wild life. We need to avoid the big industries and corporate profits destroying the future of our ecosystem. The NDP believes in promoting clean, renewable energy to minimize the terrible consequences of non-renewable power sources like fossil fuels.
