Divorce is Creating A New Behavior

How many families do you know who have been involved in a divorce? In our society there is a rapid increase every year in the divorce rate. Even higher when it involves children. I am a product of a divorced family and can understand why some children are being affected from this social trend.

There are several emotional and social factors that are involved to creating the characteristics of an adolescent, but most development starts at home. When getting a divorce there are several responsibilities that need to be addressed. Child support and the status of custodial parents, income, living arrangements and children, and factors affecting children’s adjustment. Getting a divorce is a hard time for a child’s development due to all the life changing factors. A child in a divorce may have a loss of a parent, home, neighborhood, and/or school.

There are several factors that affect a child’s adjustment to divorce. First, age, young children tend to act out more, while blaming themselves, but may adjust better overall. Second, sex, boys tend to act out more while girls may go into depression. There is evidence that kids grow better with a same-sex parent. Third, support network, children should be able to talk to other adults for support. They should be able to express their anger in order to be helped emotionally by other family members. Fourth, Parents’ attitude, children soak up all the information thrown around in fights. The more destructive the comments the more problems your child will end up having. If parents use children as pawns those children will end up growing up too fast. Last is the financial situation. Going through a divorce is hard for both parents and children. Do not fight over the money because it is not the parents’ losing

it is the children.

Children often have a loss of childhood that creates problems in later relationships. This trend of children involved in divorce is an important concern because of the high rate of divorce. People are not making choices for their families, but for themselves. Children that are part of a divorced family are going to have problem later in their life due to attachment. Children of divorced families will not create a stable environment for their families and in doing so will recreate the past. In 50 years there will not even be a point to get married because everyone will end up in divorce and it will become a social tend with no concerning
