As mentioned in our textbook, norms are rules for accepted and expected behavior. In a different sense of the word, norms also describe what most others do; what is normal. If you get to know me and some of my friends you will learn that proper behavior is not something we always follow. In the fall of 2004 two friends James, and John, and myself decided to go visit a friend of ours who works a local hotel. What was supposed to be just a friendly visit turned out to be another example of what most professionals call "a Norm Violation."
One autumn night in 2004 my friends Jim and John picked me up for one of our usual Friday nights. Before heading into Huntington as we usually do we decided to pre-game at a local Hotel where a friend of ours works as a bartender. After a few drinks the three of us went to go use the bathroom. Now I know what your thinking, "guys going to the bathroom together?" and it was just for moral support. Heading past one of the many banquet halls used at this establishment we passed a 1974 high-school reunion party. Since we are at times very social able people, especially when we have a few drinks in us, we decided to introduce ourselves. I'll never forget the faces of some of the guests there at the party when we entered the room.
