Personal Statement

I was born in Nigeria where the perception of reality is much different then here in the U.S. In my homeland there is such a different perception of reality. My country doesn't have the resources the U.S does and the people aren't as privileged. Growing up the people in Nigeria would always say that the U.S is the land of opportunity. I didn't know why they said this and didn't care. I wouldn't understand until I actually came.

I came bounding into this land of opportunity in 2006 and found myself confused and not realizing how lucky I am to be here. This event was traumatizing to me because i was leaving my family, friends, and the only place I called home. I didn't understand why I have to finish my high school education here. My mom talked to me she and my dad both said me going to the United States was for the best. She knew I was strong headed and I could support myself. I trusted her and decided to make the best of my new situation. I've actually begun to enjoy my new life in California.
