Company Gain In every company I have worked for, I have been either a manager or the equlivent of such. In order for me to have any gain, I was forced to make decision with the best interest of the company first. This was instilled from the military leadership programs. I have always looked at the whole before the individual when making decisions. I learned this in the military and being in charge of over 180 people. I developed a sense of cause and effect to every decision. This developed into a habitual thinking process of thinking how the company or whole gain from my decision. Last thing I would want to do is make a decision based off only my gain and a loss for the company.

Company Affect Next, after a solution presents itself to my problems, I have to look at the affects on the company that the decision makes. If, I make a decision to spend advertising money to improve business, there is a possibility that I may not be able to pay bills. Even though the advertising will generate future business, the decision may not be the best due to the affect financially. When I make a decision involving business, I look at the possible affects the decision has on the company and possible outcomes. I was a manager of Shurgard Self Storage and had to make decision that affected my P&L almost daily. If I made a haste decision, I lost money for the company and my store.

Personal Gain I don't feel any decision made is free from the reflection of personal gain. I am no different from others with the reward factor. People want to be rewarded for the great jobs they do. Bonuses and pay raises are a great example of this. I chose this value third because I make decisions to better the whole in hopes that the affect will benefit myself as well. As in the example above, how good my store did, that reflected on my abilities to manage and conduct business. My personal presentation on my abilities is a huge motivator for me.

Personal Affect I make it a point to look at the personal affects after decisions. I do not want to make a decision that would contradict my life values or ethics. Telling employees that you want to pay them more and when given the opprotunity to, if
