The decision to pursue a master’s of business administration (MBA) degree is based on the achievement of both professional and personal goals. Upon the completion of the degree, I expect to have a greater opportunity for promotion to upper level management, the ability to be more marketable in the business industry and a sense of personal accomplishment.
Professionally, I have career aspirations to become an executive vice president of a fortune 500 company. My mentor , a senior level executive at Ford Motor Company explained that future upper level management opportunities would be greatly decreased with out the addition of a graduate degree. In the current workforce many executives in mid-level management positions are discovering that they have gone to the extent that they can go in their profession with a bachelor’s degree alone. (Hyman 2006) The MBA degree will provide me with another qualification to differentiate me from other candidates when management looks to promote. More than ever, MBA degrees, whether completed in executive online courses or campus-based programs, are becoming the currency for admission to American management, according to Hyman.
The MBA degree will make me more marketable in the business industry. With the MBA degree, my educational background will complement my business work experience to provide me with a competitive advantage over most young executives. An advanced degree is helpful to keep your training and skills current, while making you more marketable for career advancement in your company or many others. (Hansen 2006) With undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice, my academic knowledge base had a need to become more concentrated in the direction of my career aspirations. Companies continue to seek candidates with MBA. degrees with job experience, rather just an MBA alone. (Aslop 2005) The completion of the MBA degree will result in a strong knowledge base of University graduate level academics focused on business in addition to modern business based experience.
From a personal standpoint, receiving my MBA before the age of 32 is one of my personal goals. I will be the first member of my family to complete university level graduate academics. The most important personal
