Discrimination
Everyone in one’s life time experiences some form of
discrimination due to various reasons many at times merely
because of one’s age, race, intelligence, semblance, gender and
so on. My such experience is from my Alevels ( final two years
of high school in Pakistan). It so happened that there was a
sports event coming up in school, since I was into playing
sports a lot I decided to try out for the school’s foot ball team.
Later when I told my sports teacher that I wanted to try out
for the football team he simply laughed it away by saying “ foot ball
is not a girl’s game and you definitely will not be able to
make it into the game, so go and try your luck in some other
girly sport!” I got angry at his response, I went straight to the
principal’s office and reported the matter to him. I told him that
I was not given a fair chance to try out for the team just because
I was a girl, I also said that I felt that this was an unjustified attitude
towards the participation of girls in various sports activities. I also mentioned
that I knew many girls who had interest in football and if given a chance
they could play the sport really well. After listening to me the principal
called the sports teacher and discussed the matter with him, the sports
teacher said that never in the school’s history did a girl participate in
football, and he challenged me to find at least five girls out of the forty five
girls in my batch who are capable
